How much do surrogates get paid?
GreatSurrogates base compensation starts at $65,000, with total packages frequently exceeding $85,000. Experienced surrogates earn more on each subsequent journey.
Is surrogacy compensation taxable?
Tax rules around surrogacy compensation are complex. We recommend consulting a CPA who works specifically with gestational carriers — the contract language matters, and so does how you report it.
What’s the difference between compensation and reimbursements?
Compensation is your flat-rate pay for carrying the pregnancy. Reimbursements cover out-of-pocket costs like medical care and travel. At GreatSurrogates, these are additive — never deducted from your package.
Do surrogates get paid if they miscarry?
Yes. Your contract includes miscarriage compensation provisions. All payments received up to that point are yours, and additional compensation is defined for this scenario.
Do surrogates get paid more for twins?
Yes. Carrying a multiple pregnancy involves additional physical demands, and your contract includes a twin/multiples bonus on top of your total compensation.
What if the intended parents can’t pay?
All journey funds are deposited into escrow before the journey begins. Your payments come from escrow — not from the intended parents’ bank account month to month. Your compensation is secured before you start.

Elite status is our highest classification — reserved for surrogates who meet an exceptional standard of health, stability, and readiness. All criteria below must be met, and Elite classification is confirmed through GreatSurrogates’ internal evaluation prior to any referral compensation.
